"President of WFFJ, Misako Ishimura is a captain of Team Japan for the World Fly Fishing Championship and Conservation Symposium (WFFCCS).
WFFCCS is an international forum, a sort of Olympics dedicated to celebrating and promoting the sport of fly fishing and its conservation efforts. Every year more than 200 people (about 120 competition anglers, guests and volunteers) from all over the world gather for about one week. This event has been held in Europe, the United States and Australia for the past 21 years.

How does WFFCCS decide winners and what are their rewards? The number of fish caught are counted and measured by their length and released. Anglers are given points based on this information and ranked within the group. After five sessions, the individual and team winners (teams are made up of from five to eight anglers) are determined by their ranking in all sessions. The individual winner and the winning national team are given gold medals, with the second and third place winners receiving silver and bronze medals respectively. Currently, Team Japan is the only Asian team among the approximately 20-country participants.

Team Japan members are the members of World Fly Fishing of Japan, which is a part of Internationale de la Peche Sportive - Mouche (International Sport Fly-fishing Federation - FIPS). FIPS- Mouche is the fly-fishing arm of the Confederation Internationale de la Peche Sportive (International Confederation of Sport Fishing - CIPS), which was established in1952 in Rome and controls international world competition in all fishing disciplines. CIPS is now located in Luxemburg. Every country that wants to participate in WFFCCS must be a member of CIPS and FIPS-Mouche.

Misako Ishimura was the competitor in 1997 WFFCCS in Jackson Hole, Wyoming USA, and she was invited to be captain of Team Japan in February 2000 by Mr. Jurek Kowalski, the president of the FIPS-Mouche. Misako formed WFFJ, which is a not profit organization, and make it home of Team Japan. All Team Japan anglers are members of WFFJ.
